Catholic wedding: what you need to know
Many couples find it important to get married through the Catholic Church, whether due to culture, customs, or even personal decision. They need to know exactly what steps to take during this stage for to get a wedding wellness.
During your wedding planning, the most important thing to keep in mind once reached this point is to be cautious since there are several formalities prior to the catholic wedding ceremony that you will have to perform in your hometown or in the exact place where you performed the sacraments (baptism, confirmation).
Catholic wedding requirements: Proof of baptism and confirmation
To carry out your wedding ceremony, you should present the relevant documents that ensure you have been baptized and have made your confirmation beforehand.
For your wedding preparation, you should issue these papers in the church of your city where you performed these sacraments. In case the church where you performed the sacraments belonged to a different Diocese, you must authenticate them with the corresponding Bishopric.
At this point, we must be very careful since these papers will be valid only in the next 6 months.
Civil Marriage Certificate
It’s necessary to present your civil marriage certificate, to formalize your interpersonal relationship and to be able to carry out your wedding in the catholic Church since this will help verify that your marriage will be solidly and legally. If you plan to have both weddings on the same day or within proximity dates do not worry, this also has a solution.
If you have the idea of getting legally married on the same day or close to the date of your catholic wedding blessing, you should request them to issue a document that guarantees the date of your wedding as proof.
After your Catholic celebration, you will have a few days to take your civil marriage certificate and prevent your wedding from being invalidated.
Catholic wedding traditions: Premarital talks
One of the steps you will have to take to obtain the transfer form that allows you to get married outside your locality is to complete the Premarital talks.
This procedure usually takes place on different dates depending on your locality, and you will need to go to the Church of your choice to get information about the plans you need to follow. Each church may handle it differently.
Fees
Once you have collected and/or processed all the above documents, you must go to the groom’s Church and request an appointment with the priest of the church. The intention is to make the Settlement prior to the publication of the admonitions.
During this process you must bring the requested documentation:
- Updated birth certificate
- Baptismal certificates
- Constancy of confirmation
- Official identification of the person involved
- Domicile voucher
- 3 child-sized photographs of both bride and groom
- Proof of pre-marriage talks
- Pay church fees
This process must be attended by the bride and groom and two witnesses for each of them (these witnesses must not be relatives) to have interviews with the pastor, who will decide in the end if he signs the approval for the publication of the reprimands.
Publication of warnings
When you have completed all the previous processes, the Church will need to publish your wedding event on its board for at least three weeks. The intention behind this is to ensure that the bride and groom know if there is any impediment to their wedding that they may have overlooked.
Then, you will be able to obtain a document that will allow you to have the authorization to carry out the Catholic wedding in your locality or outside of it, it will only be necessary to send the final document to begin the processes abroad.
