Destination Wedding at Hacienda Sac Chich ✨ Karen & Gilles
Karen and Gilles are a Dutch couple who have been living in Mexico City for a couple of years. Both of them had already visited the city of Mérida a few times already as they had fallen in love with the culture, the food, and the haciendas that the state has to offer. That is why, while deciding the perfect venue for their wedding, they didn’t have any doubts about celebrating their wedding in Yucatán.
After touring different haciendas, the couple decided that Sac Chich was the one to be the chosen one to witness their union.
Boho-style for a fresh wedding
On the day of the wedding the couple, accompanied by their loved ones, arrived at the hacienda in the morning to occupy the 2 rooms that had been assigned to them so they could begin the awaited getting ready. A room for Karen, who in the company of her family and friends, became the perfect place to have her hair and make-up done.
With the help of her mother, Karen put on her boho-style dress. It was beige with rhinestone details that made the beautiful Dutch girl look amazing and fresh on her wedding day.
Meanwhile, Gilles in the company of his brothers, brother-in-law, best friend, and father was in another room wearing a navy blue suit, white shirt, and a coral tie.
Words of love at first sight
Before the ceremony began, the couple finally had their first look, which took place in the gardens of the old house. Gilles waited for Karen with his back turned, who walked towards him with her white bouquet, surprising him and hugging him. They both looked at each other and shared the first love words of that wonderful day.
After this, the bride and groom had their first photo session together and then go back to the family to continue creating memories with them.
A Dutch-style celebration
The guests began to arrive and were led to the pool garden, which was the space chosen by the couple for their ceremony. Gilles waited excitedly at the altar while Karen paraded on the arm of her father who accompanied her on the way to the altar. In the groom’s eyes, you could see the love and pride of seeing his future wife walking towards him.
Finally, it was time for the ceremony in charge of the couple’s siblings. They created a very intimate moment of celebration in typical Dutch style that lasted about 45 minutes. After exchanging vows Karen and Gilles performed a traditional Dutch ritual where they both drank from a bowl which typically would be a local Dutch drink but on this occasion, they exchanged it with tequila.
At the end of the ceremony, all the guests enjoyed a cocktail reception at “Casa de Maquinas” with live music by a jazz band that sweetened the ears of all the guests who happily enjoyed good drinks and good music.
Boho – Rustic Style
In the main garden of “Casa Sisal” the boho – rustic set up was waiting for the guests with wooden tables with natural and fresh touches that decorated the environment. Once the cocktail was over, all the guests went to the garden.
A dinner full of surprises and Yucatecan food
The dinner was a 100% Yucatecan buffet, where all the guests had the opportunity to try some of the exquisite cuisines that our state has, from cochinita, escabeche and octopus.
Before dinner ended, the couple’s siblings gave them a surprise by projecting a video on one of the hacienda’s walls created especially for them, where they could see moments from their infancy until the day they began to share a life together, without a doubt a detail that made Karen and Gilles very emotional.
Traditions and fun
Once dinner was over, Karen’s brother, who is of Scottish descent, invited Gilles to play a small bagpipe as a ritual of initiation into the family, Gilles could not make the bagpipe sound and the guests could not help but laugh at this fun moment.
The first to enter the dance floor and delight us with their dance was Karen and her father, who under the sound of a quiet melody danced in front of all the attendees. In the end, Gilles was waiting for his wife on the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. To everyone’s surprise, the couple surprised their guests with a dance to the rhythm of salsa music, something that left many with their mouths open because of how well they danced and mastered this musical genre.
At the end of this first dance, everyone applauded euphorically and joined them on the dance floor to enjoy with them their first day of marriage. Definitely an unforgettable day.
